An atmospheric plein air oil study and new age impressionism painting by multi-award winning female artist Denisa Mansfield, painted directly from life while observing the shifting skies over Colchester. Working quickly in oil has many challenges, aimed to capture that fleeting moment when light, cloud and colour continually transform, where the sky feels alive and unpredictable, never settling into one single mood.
In my impressionistic style, I focused on expressive brushwork and layered tones rather than detail, allowing the paint to describe movement, depth and the softness of passing clouds. Subtle greys and creamy highlights drift across a cool blue-green sky, creating a quiet rhythm of light and shadow. This piece is both a study of changing weather and a celebration of the sky’s endless beauty, an intimate plein air moment translated into texture, colour and atmosphere.
Highly collectable artist and artwork, recently exhibited with Chelsea Art Society and the Royal Society of British Artists.
