Impastique Fusionism
Also referred to as, Dotscape Fusion; an evolving mixed-media collection by Denisa Mansfield, exploring colour, texture, and sensory balance through playful yet carefully considered composition. Developed alongside her painted practice, this body of work offers a more tactile and immersive experience one rooted in joy, curiosity, and the emotional impact of colour.
Combining expressive oil painting with mixed-media elements, each piece balances structure with spontaneity. Bold impasto brushstrokes create vibrant, layered surfaces, while small foam spheres introduce rhythm, movement, and a tactile dimension. These elements interact intuitively, forming compositions that feel energetic yet intentional.
At the core of Dotscape Fusion is a celebration of the senses. Colour becomes a vehicle for emotion, texture invites physical awareness, and playful forms evoke moments of unexpected surprise and childlike wonder. While visually dynamic, each work is thoughtfully composed, guided by balance, harmony, and an understanding of how colour and material affect the human mind.
This collection represents Mansfield’s only mixed-media practice and serves as a space for experimentation, joy, and sensory engagement. Dotscape Fusion continues to grow as an exploration of how art can uplift, stimulate, and connect, offering viewers a joyful and immersive experience that extends beyond the purely visual.
Vision
It all began with the search for a sensorially pleasing element.
In 2023, I had my daughter, an experience that completely expanded my view of life and art. She has since become my main muse, shaping my work in quiet and indirect ways, and deepening my connection to joy, play, and emotional expression.
This painting is the first piece in the Dotscape Fusion collection and was inspired by my exploration of sensory play while researching experiences for my daughter. The excitement around playful materials particularly tactile slimes, sparked something unexpected. I found myself drawn to these textures and colours as much as she was, and this shared curiosity became a joyful starting point. I wanted to explore how these sensations could be translated into visual form and brought into my artistic practice through mixed media.
Created in a time marked by uncertainty and global change, Dotscape Fusion aims to offer moments of lightness and escape. Chaotic yet controlled, structured yet spontaneous, the work embraces imperfection and celebrates creativity as a source of comfort and hope. This collection invites viewers to reconnect with their inner child and rediscover the pleasure of exploration and play.
Within Dotscape Fusion, traditional oil painting moves beyond convention, opening into a space where abstraction carries heightened emotional and sensory resonance. Thick impasto layers combined with three-dimensional mixed-media elements create immersive, dynamic surfaces. These works are not only meant to be seen, but to be experienced, encouraging reflection, imagination, and a deeper connection between artist and viewer.

Design
Vintage Mint Sundae was inspired by my fascination with vintage ice creams and the design language surrounding them, from mid-century parlours to the soft optimism embedded in retro colour palettes and flavours and colours we still love today. This piece became a joyful exploration of memory, nostalgia, and sensory experience, reimagined through a contemporary lens.
Working with mint greens and delicate pastels, I wanted the palette to feel both familiar and fresh, something that gently bridges generations. Expressive oil brushwork is combined with playful foam spheres, creating a richly textured surface that invites not only visual engagement, but imagination and touch. Design plays a central role here: each element is carefully considered, balancing spontaneity with structure.
Drawing from the charm of earlier eras, this work connects past and present through form, colour, and material. While it references childhood pleasures and simpler moments, it is not a recreation of nostalgia, but a reinterpretation, one that feels relevant now and open to future meaning and to what feels personal when connecting to this collection. The work sits between whimsy and sophistication, offering a contemporary take on joy that feels timeless rather than fleeting.
At its core, this collection is about continuity. It reflects how memories are carried forward, reshaped, and passed on, how design, colour, and play can speak across generations. I see this work as an invitation to reconnect with the inner child , while also inspiring future generations of all ages to engage with art through curiosity, imagination, and sensory exploration.
